El Encuentro Lodge began guiding fishermen from all over the globe 18 years ago. The Lodge's proprietors Michael and Jane Beale have had extraordinary success with there guiding business. When one considers that the business grew largely through word of mouth it is all the more impressive. The reputation of the Lodge and the Beales has grown over time.
The Lodge is, and always has been, a family affair. Michael, a seasoned guide himself taught all 5 of his children about fly-fishing, wildlife, and the land they call home. Each of them has had an integral role in the success of El Encuentro. Jane, who's roots in Argentina go back generations, has a contagious enthusiasm and positive outlook that few people possess. Today four of the Beale children are full time guides and the eldest is the lodge manager.
We are located on the banks of the Futaleufu River also known as the Rio Grande (not to be confused with the Rio Grande in
Tierra del Fuego ). The closest airport is in the town of
Esquel which is about an hour drive from the lodge. For those who would like to experience the fishing in both countries, El Encuentro is conveniently located just 5 miles from the Argentine/Chile boarder. In addition to our home river we fish various rivers in
Los
Alerces
National park such as the River Rivadavia and the River Frey. Another choice is the famous spring creek Arroyo Pescado; other waters are available depending on the length of your stay. We will custom design your trip.
Our goal is to give you more than just great fishing. We strive to give a true Argentine experience that includes extraordinary wines, food, company, and great adventures. We want you to feel this is your home in
Patagonia .
The Lodge offers modern and comfortable accommodations for up to 10 guests with a privileged riverside location. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. The lodge is hosted by the owners Michael and Jane Beale assisted by Antonia Beale Twilegar and a bilingual staff to make you feel welcome in a casual but 5 star family atmosphere.
The meals are home cooked and are, often times, remarkable. If you have not tried Argentine lamb you have missed out on the most succulent lamb in the world. It is cooked out doors leaning over an open fire pit by a masterful Argentine asador. You will love the mud-oven baked bread and homegrown organic vegetables freshly picked from one of our gardens. Enjoy superb Argentine wines, which are rapidly gaining a reputation throughout the world and are included with all meals. Argentina's favorite beer,
Quilmes , is always on hand after an arm wrenching day of catch and release.
Midday meals can be enjoyed on the riverside with your guide. Or, if you are close by, you may want to take a quick boat ride back to the lodge to have lunch on our riverside veranda. The latter may afford you the opportunity to try an afternoon ''Siesta'' highly recommended before you head out for the evening hatch.
Of Course, we cater to specific dietary needs upon your request.
